{Party Bee} Jake Street!

This year my husband and I had a lot of fun throwing Jake's 2nd birthday party! We thought that with Jake being so interested in Sesame Street, we had to go all out with this theme and bring "Jake Street" to our house. We primarily used a color palette of blue and green, simply because I just happen to love that color combination. But we wanted to add dashes of reds, yellows, and oranges by including the show's characters and yummy treats since Sesame Street is so colorful and we wanted the brightness, whimsy and fun to really show through.

If you saw Jake's party pics from last year, you will notice that he wasn't so fond of cake time. So this year I figured that if his favorite characters were on top of the cake, he may enjoy his cake time a little more. We ordered his cake from Mind Over Batter and they did not disappoint my little man...he loved the characters and recognized them instantly! He actually thought they were toys! Though you will see that cake time still isn't his favorite part of his party.

Jake's Godmother made his cupcakes and the kids devoured them! There were a lot of blue faces at his party!

Of course I had to include sugar cookies to coordinate with the theme, so I made Elmo and Cookie Monster cookies as well as the number "2" for the birthday boy!

 Treat bags and water bottles were placed on the table so that when guests get home with their goodies they can eat everything then wash it all down!

No party would be complete without lollipops, chocolate covered Oreos, and cake pops (made by Mind Over Batter)!

 I created these simple yet so fun party bags for the kids party favors and treats. I think they really add to the tables overall theme!

 Not only does Elmo love his Goldfish and Crayons...so does Jake!

 

Jars filled with candies and cookies...Jake especially loved the "Slimey Worms"!

 My husband worked so hard on these plywood character cut-outs and the Jake Street sign. I think he did a fantastic job! Jake's face lit up every time he saw them!

 These cut-outs were not only great decoration but were a lot of fun to take pictures next to!

 Jake and daddy getting ready for cake time....you will see that he didn't enjoy cake time again, but not because he didn't like the cake, but because mommy and daddy wouldn't let him touch his lit candle!

{Sugar Bee} Splish Splash Bash Cookies

My nephew, Harrison (aka Harry), is already turning ONE on the 1st! It seems like just yesterday that we went to visit him in the hospital...where does the time go?!?! To celebrate this major milestone in Harry's life, his parents are throwing him a "Splish Splash Bash" pool party! This party is going to be so great and his mama is working hard putting together a colorful and fun dessert table and filling the house and yard with beautiful decorations!

Of course the dessert table wouldn't be complete without coordinating sugar cookies! So to go with the theme, I created beach ball and number "1" cookies. I am very excited to see everything put together, I am sure it will look fabulous!

Happy 1st Birthday, Harry!

{Queen Bee} Mama's 60th Birthday Ruffle Cake

Yesterday my mother turned the big 6-0! Yes, my mama is actually 60 years old, though you would never know it because she doesn't look it and she doesn't really act that old either. Honestly, sometimes I think she has more energy than I do! Must be all of that Jazzercise she does.

To celebrate this momentous mile stone and to thank her for being the best mom and grandma ever, I wanted to surprise her with a special cake that was as beautiful as she is! So I thought what a perfect time to create the ruffle cake I have been dying to make.

It wasn't that long ago that I had seen Sweetapolita (a fantastic baker, you should check out her website) create a beautiful cake that looked like yards and yards of ruffles, and instantly I knew that I had to learn how to make that cake. Though there wasn't a tutorial, it seemed relatively easy and she did mention that she used the Wilton #123 large flower petal tip. Lucky for me I happened to have it! With that little bit of knowledge, I went for it....and I must say, it was actually pretty easy and the cake is very forgiving, so you don't have to be a skilled cake decorator to do this yourself.

Needless to say, my mom loved it and had a very happy birthday! 

Happy 60th Birthday to my beautiful and amazing mama, role model, teacher, cheerleader, inspiration, and friend. Without you I wouldn't be the person I am today. Love you!

{Party Bee} Monster Cookies

This past weekend my son, Jake, turned 2! I can't believe my baby boy is already two, where has the time gone? It is so true that time flies when you are having fun!

Because this past year Jake has become obsessed with Sesame Street, it only seemed appropriate that we celebrate his birthday, Jake Street style! So over the weekend we had a very fun Sesame Street themed Bash. Pics to come soon! But to give you a little sneak peek, I am showing you the "monster cookies" that I made for his dessert table. Jake loved these cookies and he wanted to play with them as if they were toys!

{Party Bee} Sneak Preview: Jake's 2nd Birthday

Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street? Well...actually Jake Street! If you haven't guessed, my son is having a Sesame Street themed birthday party for his 2nd birthday. I can't believe he is already going to be TWO! He of course is learning so many things and is developing such a fun and energetic personality and this year he has become infatuated with Sesame Street. Therefore, it only seemed appropriate to celebrate with a Jake Street birthday party!

A little while back, my husband came up with a great idea to create life size (well... life size for toddlers anyway) characters for the yard for decoration and for photos with the kids. What a fantastic idea! Well he worked hard and they came out so cute! He is pretty crafty I must say, but he didn't do this freehand, he had some help from a fabulous tool called the Tracer Projector.

This is a fantastic tool to use when you don't have the time to draw something freehand (and with 2 kids who does). He just set up a smooth cut of quality plywood in the garage where he could get it pretty dark and traced the image with a black Sharpie marker. After he finished tracing the illustration, he used Behr paint color samples that he purchased from Home Depot in the colors that he needed and painted the characters. Look at the simple transformation of Elmo...outlined with Sharpie and then painted! So easy and looks great!

In some of them, he used a combination of both paint and Sharpie.

 

As you can see, Cookie Monster's present is colored using Sharpie. Same goes with Big Bird's legs, tongue, and eyelids.

And if you don't feel like using paint at all, you can color in the entire illustration using Sharpies like our Oscar the Grouch here!

Such a simple project that makes a BIG impact! The kids are going to love them...especially Jake!
