{Sugar Bee} Stars & Stripes Sugar Cookie Collection

The 4th of July is in four days and I am looking forward to hanging out with my family, having fun by the pool, eating and drinking festive foods, and watching fireworks! But of course throughout all of the entertainment, we will remember how wonderful it is to live in the United States and how grateful we are for the freedoms we have.

This year for the 4th, I couldn't miss the opportunity to create some sweets to celebrate this "sweet land of liberty"! Thus, I got to baking and created my "Stars & Stripes" sugar cookie collection that of course features a lot of red, white, and blue....and stars and stripes! Among my favorites that I created were Uncle Sam, the top hat, and the good ol' United States of America with the words "Let Freedom Ring" written across the surface. But wouldn't you know, my kids took a liking to the "Popsicles" that I made with real wooden sticks (though with this heat, I could use a real popsicle right about now)!
I hope all of you are ready for a day full of fun, food, family, and friends....and remembering our nations freedoms as well as the courageous men and women who are so dedicated to preserving it.

Have a happy and safe Independence Day!

{Sugar Bee} A Few of My Favorite Things Sugar Cookies

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens are two favorite things that will be celebrated at a super cute and unique birthday party today! When I was approached to make cookies for a "Few of My Favorite Things" birthday party, I was so excited and completely overjoyed that a little girl would want her party theme based on that wonderful song, but even more impressed that her mom would use her creativity to put together a party filled with all of the details in the song!

So in case you don't know the words to the song, here they are:

Raindrops on roses
And whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
Cream-colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells
And schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver-white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

This song was written and illustrated into the form of a book. The cover of the book is very vintage looking and full of softer, muted colors.  When choosing the details of the song to create in cookie form, I wanted them to look cohesive so I created unity using the colors from the illustration from the cover of the book.

Can you figure out what part of the song these cookies represent?!

I was very happy with the way they turned out and I hope the birthday girl loves them even more and adds them to the list of her favorite things!

{Sugar Bee} Tie-rrific Father's Day Cookies

I had a good friend request some cookies that were a more traditional approach to Father's Day....which of course is the quintessential mustache and tie! I mean, I know I have given my dad a tie or two in the past for Father's Day....and wouldn't you know my dad has donned a mustache as well! So it was easy to design a set for a tie-rrific dad!
This small set is comprised of cookies that spell out "DAD" in masculine patterns (argyle and houndstooth) with a mustache and bow-tie. I used a pretty neutral color palette of black, white, and gray, but I wanted to include a pop of color, so I added a touch of green to brighten up the set.

I think it turned out "fan-stache-tic"! Happy Father's Day to the tie-rrific dads!

{Sugar Bee} Hoppy Father's Day to the King of the Grill!

This year for Father's Day I wanted to create a fun cookie collection fit for a dad who is the king of the grill and enjoys a cold pint of beer! Well.... kinda like my dad, who happens to be the inspiration for these cookies.

The two collections I titled "King of the Grill Collection" and the "Hoppy Father's Day Collection". The best part of these collections is that not only are they cute on their own, but they work so well together!

My King of the Grill Collection is comprised of a red grill, hot dog with mustard, mustard container with a cute mustache face, and a grill mitt with the words "king of the grill" written on it. I added a few mustaches for an extra touch of the quintessential dad feature.

My Hoppy Father's Day Collection includes a large bubbly pint of beer with a cute mustache face and a favorite beer food....soft pretzels!

When the two collections are put together, it just reminds me of a super fun BBQ with family and friends. I am sure this is what many of you will be doing this Father's Day. So while the Fathers are being the flipping best and grilling like kings, these cookies will make a great gift for dad to enjoy while they sit back, kick up their feet, and enjoy a cold pint!
Hoppy Father's Day to all you Flippin' Awesome Dads!
